Our Tutor Selection Process
At The Learning Studio, we believe that outstanding tutoring requires far more than excellent academic results.
Our tutors work closely with students, so we take great care to ensure that every tutor we bring into our team has the academic ability, communication skills, judgement and teaching approach needed to make a genuine difference.
That’s why our selection process is deliberately rigorous.
We don’t simply review a CV and offer a position. Every tutor must successfully complete a number of stages before they can join The Learning Studio.
CV Selection
Every application starts with a detailed review of the candidate’s CV.
We look carefully at academic background, subject expertise, university experience, tutoring or teaching experience, and the wider qualities that we believe make someone an exceptional tutor.
Only candidates who meet our high standards are invited to the next stage.
Interview Day
Successful candidates are invited to an interview day at The Learning Studio.
This gives us the opportunity to assess candidates in a much more meaningful way than a traditional interview alone.
Candidates complete several challenging tasks designed to test both their academic ability and their suitability for working with our students.
Our tutors need to be academically exceptional in the subjects they teach.
As part of the selection process, candidates sit a demanding academic examination designed to test their knowledge, problem-solving ability and ability to work accurately under pressure.

We want to be confident that our tutors genuinely understand their subject - not simply that they have achieved a strong grade themselves.

Candidates then meet with our management team for a detailed interview.
We want to understand who the candidate is, how they communicate, how they think, what motivates them and how they would approach working with a student.
We are looking for tutors who are intelligent, engaging, thoughtful and able to build strong relationships with the young people they teach.

Academic knowledge is only one part of being an exceptional tutor.
Our pedagogy task allows us to assess how candidates explain ideas, structure learning, respond to misconceptions and adapt their approach to the needs of a student.
We are looking for evidence of clear thinking, strong communication and a genuine understanding of how students learn.
